Excuse me, the efficiency of the internal combustion engine is 50%? It’s a bit sly, to put it mildly. Only this spring, #nissan announced that it was able to achieve a thermal efficiency of 50% for its internal combustion engine. But this is only in the experimental engine, which will be used in the e-Power hybrid power plant solely as a generator, and only for recharging the battery. There is no question of any 50% # efficiency in the classic layout of a gasoline car. And besides, how can you compare the efficiency # of an internal combustion engine on board a car with the efficiency of an electric motor, but for some reason, again, not «on board», but taking into account the resources spent on generating electricity for it? This is not fair. Absolutely!
Let’s be honest that the gasoline in the tank of a gasoline car, that the electricity pumped into the battery of an electric car, these are types of «fuels». In one case it is liquid fuel, in the other it is electrons with a certain potential. And making a simple logical conclusion, we can say that cars are mobile storage devices and fuel consumers.
That is, speaking about the efficiency of the internal combustion engine of an engine on board, we honestly have to compare it with the efficiency of the electric motor of an electric vehicle on board. Fuel, whatever it may be, is here taken out of the brackets. Therefore, the efficiency of the internal combustion engine of the engine can never come close to the efficiency of the electric motor.
In the speech I was discussing, it was said that the electricity with which # electric cars are charged is produced at thermal power plants by burning fuel. And what country are we talking about? Each specific country has its own #energy balance. In Russia he is one, in Germany another, in France the third. What is it about? And if we are talking about Russia, then we have one of the «greenest» energy balances in the world. And we forgot to talk about gasoline and diesel. Well, since when talking about electricity for electric vehicles it was said about «dirty generation», then let’s talk about liquid fuel.
Before there is a liter of gasoline or diesel in the tank of the car’s internal combustion engine, oh, how many technological stages will pass, extrapolating which to the final product we will get the efficiency of the internal combustion engine not announced 50%, but God forbid, 15-20 percent. So, before a liter of gasoline appears, geologists must conduct surveys and find a deposit. And we estimate how many resources will be needed for this. Then the field is developed, pumping chairs, compressor and distillation stations, labor pipelines are installed, and then the crude oil goes to the refinery. And at all the stages described above, fossil fuels and electricity are consumed, which we also add to the balance of the future liter of gasoline. This is what we call the carbon footprint.
At the refinery # oil is repeatedly distilled, various fractions are separated, and the output is gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and so on. And how much electricity was spent on the production of one liter of gasoline. By the way, I have already raised this issue in one of the publications earlier — «
Yes, of course, not all technological processes at # refineries use electricity, you can burn associated gas and other combustible components of oil. But isn’t this «oil and gas egoism»? Talk to the residents of the Moscow districts of Kopotnya, Maryino, Lyublino, Dzerzhinsky near Moscow, I think that there is no smell of chamomiles near the Yaroslavl oil refinery.
So, in the end, the balance will still not be in favor of the internal combustion engine of cars. And we must face the truth — hybrids are only a transitional model, for some companies that do not know how or are afraid to quickly switch to the production of clean electric vehicles.
You know, there is a saying «Everything ingenious is simple.» What Mikhail Lifshits dreams of is simply monstrous, at least for an ordinary motorist. That is, in his opinion, the car needs to be stuffed with an internal combustion engine, and therefore also with a fuel tank, an electric motor, a battery pack, and plus everything else with a block of supercapacitors! Do you have any idea how much weight this structure will be? How many elements can fail, and ultimately, how much will this «sandwich» cost? Why such a jumble of systems? In order not to offend anyone? All the sisters have earrings? Will the oilmen market gasoline, will the supercapacitor manufacturers also get a piece of the pie? And for what, and at whose expense the banquet?
But the fact of the historical process and the transformation of the global automotive industry suggests that there will be no supercapacitors in personal light electric vehicles. They will be used exclusively in specialized and heavy equipment.
As a result, an electric car is already the cleanest and most environmentally friendly mode of transport, which we, dear readers, are telling you about, by proof!
