In our world everything is interconnected. Present the «thread» of electric vehicles, and electric vehicles in general, including such as Hyperloop, will further renew renewable energy, its use, including in logistics chains. And, of course, we will reach every particular consumer. Now some of the new technologies are still somewhat seen as fantastic, we are too diluted with everyday problems, which does not allow directly looking into the eyes of an approaching future. And his taire is visible to the unarmed look.

The other day in the port of Jebel-Ali, which is not far from Dubai, a test phase of operation of the pilot container hub Boxbay has successfully completed. The project has been implemented jointly by DP WORLD based on the company’s dubai, and provides intellectual logistics of through supply chains, and the German company specializing in industrial design SMS Group GmbH.

Within the framework of the test operation, 10,000 displacements of containers on a 50-meter in the height of the Boxbay coil system in the port of Jebel Ali were successfully committed. The test bench consists of 792 container compartments. And this is only the first stage. BoxBay is an automated container processing system that stores containers up to eleven floors on steel racks. This is something similar to automated parking for cars, only more several times. Its capacity is more than three times higher than the usual platform, so the terminal area can be reduced to 70 percent. The system is designed for automatic launch and provides individual access to any container without moving another.

Someone to ask, but what is the connection between the stacking of containers and the «green» topic. As I wrote at first — everything is connected. First, when the system is built in its full scale, all the energy for its operation will be generated by the system itself due to solar panels installed on the roof of the hub, and accumulated in the corresponding energy accumulator.

That is, the work of the hub becomes completely autonomous in energy, and completely decarbonized.

Secondly, this hub will become one of the components of the future logistics, in this case, on the Arabian Peninsula, part of which will be a Hyperloop transport system. And all these projects go with directly participation and support for His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayam

Events of the previous one and a half years create conditions for faster tectonic changes in the global economy. World trade is changing. It continues to grow a rapid pace, but more importantly, it is quickly transformed to meet the growth of a new generation of consumers who are required both personalized products and individual services. For large retailers enterprises, this requires a comprehensive re-equipment of their supply chains. For logistics, in general, this means that it is on the path to significant changes caused by new technologies and concepts.

This industry is already at the forefront of innovation. According to McKinsey Global Institute, the transport and warehouse industry already has the third largest automation potential among all sectors. And, according to PwC, «There is no other industry, where so many industry experts attach great importance to the data and analyst in the next five years than transport and logistics — 90% … compared with the average indicator of 83%.»

E-commerce radically changes how people consume, and their expectations regarding when the goods arrive. As a result, logistics operations cannot continue to focus on the delivery of 20 ideally packed pallets in a 40-foot container and ensuring their timely delivery to large retail networks; Instead, consumer demand now expects that these goods will be delivered directly to their threshold with incredibly low freight rates and incredibly high speed. The fact that there was once an invoice for one container in one place, now there should now cover thousands of individual parcels in thousands of items, as well as returned goods.

During the current decade, when consumers enter shops, they will require increasingly individualized proposals. We now see the growth of courier delivery, an increase in the number of posts. For retail and wholesale merchants, this means more compressed dates, more queues and much more complex delivery of goods from point A to point B. This means incredible control and transparency from the point of free shipping to the unloading port. This is what is now customary to call # internet things.

New cargo technologies

Unmanned electric trucks, drones flying in the sky, delivering an e-commerce order, and large cargo capsules, rushing through vacuum pipes at a speed close to flight speed, for some, still may seem science fiction, but in fact they are workable today. These are new technologies that are designed to transform global supply technologies that in 20 years will seem ordinary.

One of the largest technological trends is currently autonomous transport for delivery, both on long distances and on the «last mile», ranging from hydrogen autonomous trunk tractors, and finishing delivery drones,

Some of the largest startups of the technological industry invest significant funds in this sphere. #Google not only makes big bets on your subsidiary manufacturing unmanned #wayMo car, but also works on automatic locking lockers to safely deliver goods directly to customers. #tesla is working on the SEMI electric truck, which can ride independently in autonomous columns. Worldwide, and not least in China, the wave of startups focuses on the autonomous delivery of the last mile. According to PWC estimates, from 2011, 150 million dollars of venture capital were invested in startups in the field of digital logistics.

Also appear completely new types of transport, such as the high-speed #hyperloop system and its logistics embodiment of the Cargospeed, which was created as a result of the partnership between DP World and #virgin Hyperloop One.

This new generation technology provides cargo systems with Hyperloop support for rapid, stable and efficient delivery of goods. Hyperloop cargo capsules are steadily powered by solar energy, can be moved to central warehouse space for breakdown, for subsequent delivery of drone directly retail and wholesale merchants, or directly to a specific customer.

Increased automation

Warehouses and ports, usually limited in areas, in the near future will face significantly higher demands. The need to process and transmit more from the same area in geometric progression with the same area requires a quick transition to automation. Here I can draw your attention to one example. Above you saw an innovative container hub in Dubai. And what contrast looks «warehouse» containers, that on the left side of the road, about halfway from Moscow to Domodedovo Airport. Where along the perimeter of the «warehouse» in the forest belt falls garbage and anything. And they see everyone who rides at this airport or from it by car.

In terms of warehouses, according to McKinsey estimates, almost all tasks — from creating and disassembling pallets before transporting goods through the warehouse and the loading platform — will be automated. For such, it would seem, a simple task, like a pallet assembly, a high level of intelligence is required; Specific samples for specific goods that are becoming more complicated than more variations need to be packaged. And the rates are high — the wrong packed pallet can collapse, damage the goods for tens of thousands of dollars and create a serious danger to those who are engaged in freight on arrival.

Just like skyscrapers and elevators allowed urban planners to significantly increase the expiration of each square kilometer of the Earth, new technologies can help supply suppliers of logistics services and port operators to receive significantly more from each square meter of a critical working area.

Take, for example, Boxbay, an innovative concept that is designed to bring the logistics of the port layer to a new level of speed and efficiency. Like elevators in the skyscraper, the system is built around the new and intelligent High Bay storage (HBS) — a stellage design that offers unique advantages, since the containers are stored at an altitude of eleven floors, providing the bandwidth of the usual terminal to a third of the surface area.

Fully automated, it has direct access to each container, which eliminates the unpaid and unproductive pull-out. It also features a significant increase in the speed of processing, energy efficiency, safety and a significant reduction in operating costs.

Effective trading platforms.

Another key component in providing trade and movement of goods is associated with how the markets are built around key logistics nodes. The market will allow traders to benefit from lower costs for supply chain and greater efficiency due to the use of world-class multimodal infrastructure, for example, as in Jebel Ali and Dubai. International traders will be able to buy wholesale goods in Dubai at wholesale prices with the shortest delivery time and will be able to more effectively satisfy demand.

Logistics undergo digital transformation.

The industry as a whole enters a broader tendency of digital transformation using new platforms and technologies that significantly increase the transparency of the supply chain and, therefore, its effectiveness. The new features of the Internet are allowed to carefully track transit parcels, which is especially useful for consolidated cargo and small, more urgent shipments that are increasingly determined by the economy on demand. In addition, there are technologies such as blockchas that promise to help run reliable transaction logs that can be used for all, from tracking parcels to recording business transactions and relief of bank transfer.

Although the benefits of new technologies seem obvious, they affect the skill set required from employees in the industry. This allows employees to improve qualifications using digital learning.

Iot and # Blockchain, of course, do not belong to logistics, but reflect broader technological capabilities that will bring significant benefits in the next decade. For OEM suppliers, plants, distributors and intermediate cargo partners, these technologies can integrate incredibly complex systems into a single «glass panel» for unprecedented visibility and control. In companies such as DP World, many of these advantages are already being implemented today.

So, we see the salary of the future today. This is the automation of logistics, application for the delivery of non-emission vehicles. In our particular case, in Moscow, for us is no longer awesome to see the couriers of the largest delivery services on electric bicycles or scooters. For them, it is convenient and fast, and for the city there are fewer exhausts, due to the smaller number of cars. How much will this be convenient to a specific buyer? Everyone has their own requests. Someone is enough to choose the product on the Internet and wait for his delivery by the courier, and someone will be interested in choosing personally in the store. But for the second today there are problems. I believe that the growth of courier delivery directly from the logistics centers, will force the landlords in the end, significantly reduce the rates for rentable areas in order to not lose their income from their commercial real estate. This should open the opportunity to open new outlets, and therefore workplaces in the areas of trade and services.

In any case, we are no longer just witnesses of cardinal changes, but their participants.
